Fisher & Paykel Appliances Campus

Project Overview

Fisher & Paykel Appliances' new campus in Penrose is a mass-timber workplace where the structure is the finish. An exposed diagrid carries the building and shapes its interior, opening into atria linked by bridges and stairways, with full-height glazing and timber floors throughout. HygieNZ delivered the post-construction clean ahead of handover.

Our Approach

On a building like this, protecting surfaces matters as much as cleaning them. Exposed mass timber, timber flooring, glazing and fine metalwork were each cleaned using methods matched to the material, with attention to marking, moisture and residue on finishes that cannot simply be repainted or replaced.

The campus also holds features that are irreplaceable. A 4,000-year-old swamp kauri log sits as a centrepiece inside the workplace, and a living kauri dedicated to the company's founders was relocated to a prominent position on the site during the landscape works. Both were treated as protected zones and worked around with care rather than cleaned by standard site methods.
